Sergio Aguero has stirred up controversy at the Club World Cup after making several pointed comments about Cristiano Ronaldo during a livestream with YouTube personality iShowSpeed. The Argentine, known for his prolific Premier League career with Manchester City and later a stint at Barcelona, made the remarks after attending the tournament’s opening match between Al Ahly and Inter Miami, which ended in a goalless draw at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Following the match, the retired striker appeared on a livestream with iShowSpeed, a vocal Ronaldo supporter, where the conversation quickly turned to the long-standing Messi-Ronaldo rivalry.
During the stream, Aguero was asked by Speed whether he could help arrange a meeting with Messi. The 36-year-old, who played alongside Messi 90 times during his career, responded by playfully interrogating Speed’s allegiance to Ronaldo. The exchange then took a turn when Aguero remarked: “But [Cristiano] Ronaldo plays here [at the Club World Cup]? Or no? Oh, maybe he has to watch."

The quip referred to Ronaldo’s absence from the tournament, despite earlier speculation that he might join a participating team to feature in the competition. Al Nassr, his current club, did not qualify for the Club World Cup.
Aguero didn’t stop there. After Speed praised Ronaldo’s international achievements, Aguero added with a sarcastic smile: “[Ronaldo] just won the [Euros] no? Ah the Nations League… congratulations.”
The remarks sparked a flurry of reactions across social media. Despite the polarised opinions, Aguero’s playful trolling during the livestream highlighted the enduring passion surrounding football’s greatest individual rivalry—one that continues to divide fans even as both players move into the final chapters of their careers.
