Liverpool head into their first home Premier League match of the season with several players still unavailable, as Andoni Iraola’s side look to claim their first league victory of the campaign.
The Reds opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United, with Dominik Szoboszlai rescuing a point with a 99th-minute penalty after Liverpool had twice fallen behind.
Liverpool will now welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield this weekend. The draw leaves Liverpool 10th in the Premier League table, with one point from their opening fixture.
Liverpool injury update
Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni remain sidelined with long-term injuries.
Bradley underwent surgery following a significant knee injury suffered away at Arsenal in January. Ekitike ruptured his Achilles tendon in April, while Leoni continues his recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered shortly after making his debut during the 2025-26 campaign.
Leoni is currently considered the closest of the trio to returning, although a comeback remains some way off. Bradley and Ekitike are expected to be out for several more months.
Federico Chiesa is also unavailable after suffering a small muscle injury during pre-season.
“Fede is not available,” Iraola said on August 27. “In the game against Como he felt something at the back and it's a small muscle injury. He is not available.”
Joe Gomez remains sidelined after sustaining a muscle injury against Sunderland during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States.
The defender was initially expected to miss several weeks, with Iraola previously indicating that around a month could be required depending on his recovery.
Liverpool therefore remain without Bradley, Ekitike, Leoni, Chiesa and Gomez ahead of their Anfield meeting with Forest.
No suspensions
Liverpool have no players currently serving suspensions, meaning their absences for the weekend are entirely injury-related.
With Liverpool seeking their first win under Iraola in the Premier League, the availability of the squad will be a key factor as they look to build on the dramatic point secured at Newcastle.
