Liverpool manager Arne Slot has provided the latest update on the men’s squad, revealing several injury setbacks ahead of their Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on January 31.
Injury Woes Continue
Stefan Bajcetic remains sidelined, yet to feature this season. Slot explained that the midfielder is slowly returning to training but continues to experience minor setbacks after months away from first-team action. “He constantly gets close to the team and then he has a little setback,” Slot said. “We’re hoping to have him back very soon, but we have to manage expectations.”
Conor Bradley’s season is over following a serious knee injury sustained against Arsenal on January 8. The Northern Irishman underwent surgery and has now started rehabilitation. “A big blow but surgery is done, so the comeback starts now,” Bradley said earlier this month.
Jayden Danns is also unavailable due to a lingering fitness issue, with Slot confirming that he is not expected to return immediately.
Jeremie Frimpong pulled up with a muscle injury minutes into Liverpool’s Champions League match against Qarabag. Slot confirmed that the winger will miss upcoming games but noted the injury is not as severe as initially feared.

Joe Gomez continues to recover after being forced off against Bournemouth, ruling him out of the Newcastle match. “He will not be available for the weekend,” Slot confirmed, though he suggested Gomez’s absence may not last much longer.
Alexander Isak is on the sidelines after ankle surgery that followed a fibula fracture sustained in December against Tottenham Hotspur. Slot emphasized that Isak’s recovery will take time, though he is expected to return later this season.
Giovanni Leoni remains out after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear during his debut in September and is not expected back this season. Slot praised the young defender’s resilience despite the lengthy recovery.
Returning and Available Players
On a positive note, Ibrahima Konate is back in training after missing recent matches for personal reasons and will be available for selection. Curtis Jones, who missed the Qarabag fixture due to illness, has also returned to full fitness.
No Suspensions
Liverpool currently have no players suspended, giving Slot more flexibility in squad selection despite the injury list.
Liverpool will be hoping that their returning players can make an impact as they look to maintain momentum in the league and Europe.
