Ligue 1 clubs are facing significant selection challenges ahead of Matchday 27, with a combination of suspensions and injuries set to impact several teams across the weekend. With nine players suspended and numerous injury concerns, squad depth will be tested across the league.
The round begins on Friday night with Lens hosting Angers, where Arthur Masuaku will complete the final match of his three-game suspension following his Coupe de France red card. Lorient forward Pablo Pagis is in a similar situation, serving the last of his ban against Toulouse, while teammate Bamo Meïté is also unavailable.
Brest will be notably weakened for their trip to Auxerre, missing both captain Brendan Chardonnet and in-form striker Ludovic Ajorque. Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, travel to Nice without Achraf Hakimi.
Sunday’s fixtures bring further absences. Lyon will be without midfielder Tyler Morton for their clash with Monaco, while Le Havre head into their meeting with Paris FC missing Yanis Zouaoui and Stephan Zagadou.
As of 18 March, the French Ligue 1 table shows a tight race at the top, with Paris Saint-Germain leading on 57 points, just one ahead of RC Lens on 56. Marseille and Lyon are also in strong positions for Champions League qualification, sitting on 49 and 47 points respectively. Lille occupies the lone Europa League spot with 44 points, while Monaco and Rennes remain close behind, keeping the battle for European places competitive.
In the mid-table, teams such as Strasbourg, Lorient, Brest, Toulouse, Angers, Paris FC, Le Havre, and Nice are all jockeying for position, with points ranging from 37 down to 27. At the lower end of the table, Auxerre faces the relegation playoff on 19 points, while Nantes and Metz occupy the automatic relegation spots with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Overall, the league is highly competitive at both ends, with the title race, European qualification, and relegation battles all still very much in play.
There is, however, some relief for several sides with key players returning from suspension. Auxerre regain Lassine Sinayoko, who has contributed 6 goals and 3 assists this season, while Angers welcome back Yassin Belkhdim. Lyon will also benefit from the return of Clinton Mata, and Le Havre see Simon Ebonog back in contention.
Injuries continue to pose major problems across the league. Angers are without Ekomié and Arcus, while Koyalipou and Hervé Koffi are ineligible to face their parent club Lens. Lens themselves regain Allan Saint-Maximin but remain short of several players.
Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt a blow with Bradley Barcola ruled out for several weeks due to a serious ankle sprain sustained in the Champions League. Strasbourg’s Ben Chilwell is doubtful after a late thigh injury last weekend, and Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes also faces a race to be fit.
Further uncertainty surrounds Paris FC’s Ilan Kebbal, who missed last weekend with a quadriceps issue, while teammate Samir Chergui is edging closer to a return.
Long-term injuries continue to affect multiple squads, including Strasbourg, Monaco, Lille, Metz, Rennes, Le Havre, Lyon, and Marseille. Recent weeks have also seen additional absences at Lorient, Auxerre, Monaco, Toulouse, and Lille, further stretching resources.
Despite the setbacks, there are some positive developments. Alongside Saint-Maximin’s return at Lens, Lyon have welcomed Pavel Šulc, Afonso Moreira, and Malick Fofana back into the squad ahead of their European fixture.
With so many key players unavailable, Matchday 27 could prove decisive in shaping both the title race and the battle for European places.
