FC Cincinnati has announced a major step in its international ambitions by forming a strategic partnership with Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto. The agreement positions the two clubs as partners in both European and North American markets, marking a significant milestone for the young MLS club.
According to Michele Montesi, FC Porto’s Chief Strategy Officer, the collaboration is built on four key pillars in the sporting arena: scouting and talent identification in high-growth markets, player and academy development, data sharing, and health best practices.
“For FC Porto, international expansion is a central part of our growth strategy,” Montesi said. “This partnership not only strengthens our sporting initiatives but also opens up opportunities for brand growth and new commercial ventures in North America.”
FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding emphasized the importance of aligning with a European club known for pioneering best practices. “We wanted a partner in Europe that could help us grow and learn,” Berding explained. “FC Porto shares our vision for athlete development, scouting, sports science, performance, and market expansion. This is a unique opportunity to create something valuable and long-lasting.”

The agreement also provides FC Porto with direct access to the fast-growing North American football market. “This is one of the most relevant markets in world football,” Montesi added. “It allows us to strengthen our connection with fans on North American soil and support our long-term growth objectives.”
For FC Cincinnati, a club just ten years old but already an MLS title winner, the partnership represents a chance to accelerate development. “Working with a historic European club like FC Porto will fuel our ambition to become one of the best clubs in the MLS and, eventually, in the world,” Berding said.
The partnership, which began with connections made during the Club World Cup in the United States, is expected to focus on areas including athlete development, scouting, data analysis, sports science, performance optimization, and training center development. Both clubs aim to create a framework that benefits players, staff, and fans alike.
