Sheffield United have issued an apology following a cyberattack on their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, during which a series of offensive and inappropriate messages were shared with their followers.
The posts, which have since been removed, included multiple references targeting Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan. The club confirmed it has regained control of the account and has taken steps to secure it from further breaches.
In a statement, the club said: "The club would like to apologise to anyone offended by what the hackers posted to our page; these posts do not represent the views of anyone at Sheffield United."
#SUFC can confirm that the account has been reclaimed, and all posts made by the hackers have been removed.

The breach occurred just days before the Blades are due to play Sunderland in the Championship play-off final at Wembley—a pivotal match in their push for promotion. The timing of the incident added to the surprise, as supporters had been anticipating a stream of content building up to the high-stakes fixture.
Instead, fans were met with an unexpected wave of erratic posts on Monday afternoon, many of which appeared to mock a prominent figure from their city rivals, causing confusion and concern among followers.
