Serie A authorities have handed down a series of fines and suspensions following the completion of Matchday 18, played between 2 and 4 January, with Roma and Lazio among the clubs sanctioned and several players banned.
Roma were hit with the heaviest penalty, receiving a €20,000 fine after their supporters threw a firecracker onto the pitch during the second half of their 1–0 defeat at Atalanta. The device struck an assistant referee on the foot and later exploded nearby, momentarily stunning the official. The club were also fined a further €4,000 for smoke bombs thrown onto the field.
Lazio were fined €5,000 for insulting chants aimed at opposition supporters during their 2–0 loss to Napoli, while additional fines were issued to Hellas Verona (€4,000), Genoa (€3,000), Atalanta (€2,000), Fiorentina (€2,000), Inter (€2,000) and Parma (€1,500) for crowd-related incidents including objects being thrown onto the pitch.
On the field, Lazio’s Adam Marušić and Napoli’s Pasquale Mazzocchi were each handed a one-match suspension and fined €5,000 after being sent off for grabbing an opponent by the neck during a heated incident late in the second half. Lazio forward Tijjani Noslin also received a one-match ban following a second yellow card.

Roma defenders Mario Hermoso and Gianluca Mancini will miss one match each after picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season.
Several coaches and officials were also punished. Pisa coach Gaetano Caridi and Fiorentina assistant Daniele Cavalletto were both handed one-match touchline bans for aggressive protests and intimidating behaviour, while Cremonese official Simone Giacchetta was similarly suspended. Atalanta sporting director Tony D’Amico was fined €10,000 and issued with a warning for intimidating and gravely disrespectful conduct towards the referee at half-time.
Matchday 18 results saw wins for Atalanta, Milan, Como, Fiorentina, Inter, Napoli and Torino, with Juventus, Genoa and Sassuolo all held to draws.
The sanctions were confirmed by Serie A Sports Judge Gerardo Mastrandrea, with all fines to be charged directly to the clubs’ league accounts.
