Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following comments he made after his side’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
In a statement issued under its Regulation and Discipline update, the FA confirmed that the Spain international has been accused of acting improperly during a post-match media interview after the game on Sunday 1 February 2026.
It is alleged that Rodri made remarks which implied bias and/or questioned the integrity of a match official or match officials, in breach of FA Rule 3.1. The rule covers comments that suggest a lack of impartiality or integrity on the part of referees.

Rodri, who played the full 90 minutes against Spurs, was once again central to City’s midfield display. The 29-year-old completed over 90 per cent of his passes, made several key interceptions and recoveries, and attempted multiple shots from distance as he sought to influence proceedings. He also won a number of aerial duels and finished the match as one of City’s most involved players in terms of touches and distribution.
Despite his typically commanding performance in the middle of the park, attention after the final whistle shifted to his remarks in the media area, which have now led to formal action from the FA.
Rodri has until Wednesday 18 February to respond to the charge.
Neither Manchester City nor the player has yet issued a public statement in response to the allegation. If found guilty, the midfielder could face disciplinary sanctions, which may include a fine or suspension, depending on the outcome of the proceedings.
