Rangers have dismissed head coach Russell Martin after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Falkirk left the Glasgow club languishing in the bottom half of the William Hill Premiership table.
The stalemate extended Rangers’ disappointing league run to just one win in seven games, sparking anger among travelling supporters. Mounted police were required to escort Martin from the Falkirk Stadium car park as fans surrounded the team bus in protest.

A statement released by the club confirmed the decision:
“Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with head coach Russell Martin. While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club’s expectations.”
The 39-year-old’s exit brings an end to a turbulent 17-game spell in charge. Rangers have managed only five wins across all competitions, while enduring defeats in both Europa League group matches and crashing out of Champions League qualifying after a humiliating 9-1 aggregate loss to Club Brugge.

Rangers’ poor form has contrasted sharply with their heavy summer investment, which saw around £34 million spent on 12 new signings, including a club-record £10 million move for Youssef Chermiti, the club’s biggest outlay in 25 years.
Martin becomes Rangers’ fourth managerial departure in 2025, following Philippe Clement, Barry Ferguson’s interim spell, and now his own brief reign. Reports suggest that Steven Gerrard is being lined-up to return and fill the vacant position.
