The German Football League (DFL) has confirmed that Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 stadiums will begin displaying added time in full on big screens from 1 January 2026, marking a notable change in matchday timekeeping.
The decision, announced at the DFL’s General Assembly on Thursday, means that instead of the stadium clocks stopping at 45 and 90 minutes—as is currently standard—supporters will be able to watch added time count up in real time until the referee blows the final whistle. At present, only the allotted amount of stoppage time is shown to spectators.

According to the DFL, the update has been approved by the DFB's refereeing committee and will be introduced where the necessary technical conditions are in place. The league said the move is designed to improve transparency and enhance the matchday experience for fans, clubs, players and the media.
The change brings German football closer to timekeeping practices used in some international competitions and reflects an ongoing effort to increase clarity around stoppage-time decisions.
