The men’s DFB-Pokal final will remain in Berlin for the foreseeable future after the German Football Association (DFB) agreed a new deal to keep the showpiece event at the Olympiastadion until 2030.
The extension, reached with the state of Berlin, guarantees that at least five more finals will be staged in the capital, continuing a tradition that has been in place for four decades. The Olympiastadion has hosted the DFB-Pokal final every year since 1985, making it one of the longest-running fixed venues for a major domestic cup final in European football.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said the decision underlined the importance of preserving the unique character of the competition’s showpiece occasion, which he described as a cornerstone of German football culture. He highlighted the Olympiastadion’s atmosphere and history as key reasons for maintaining Berlin as the permanent host.

Beyond its sporting significance, the DFB also pointed to the economic impact of the final on both German football and the host city. General secretary Holger Blask noted that the event delivers strong media exposure and commercial value for clubs, partners and sponsors, while also providing long-term planning security through the extended agreement.
As part of the renewed deal, further upgrades will be made to the Olympiastadion’s infrastructure. Plans include an expansion of the south entrance, aimed at reducing waiting times and improving access for supporters. The improvements follow a detailed review of fan flows and logistics conducted after the 2025 final.
With the extension in place, the DFB has signalled its intention to combine continuity with ongoing improvements, ensuring the DFB-Pokal final remains one of the standout events on the German football calendar in the years ahead.
