Mumbai City FC has announced that City Football Group Limited (CFG) has divested its shareholding in the club, with the founding owners set to assume full control of the organisation going forward.
CFG first invested in Mumbai City FC in 2019, a period during which the club enjoyed the most successful era in its history. Under the partnership, Mumbai City won two Indian Super League (ISL) League Winners’ Shields and lifted the ISL Cup on two occasions, while also strengthening its football operations and contributing to the broader development of the sport in India.
In a statement, CFG said the decision followed a comprehensive commercial review and was influenced by ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of the Indian Super League. The group described the move as part of its disciplined and strategic approach, aimed at focusing resources on areas where it can generate the greatest long-term impact.

Despite stepping away from ownership, CFG expressed pride in what was achieved during its time with the club and thanked everyone associated with Mumbai City FC, including players, coaches, staff, fans and partners, for their commitment and passion.
CFG also indicated it intends to maintain relationships and partnerships in India in the future, signalling that while its ownership chapter at Mumbai City FC has come to an end, its engagement with Indian football may continue in other forms.
Mumbai City FC did not announce any immediate changes to its football operations, with the founding owners now overseeing the club’s next phase as it navigates an uncertain period for the ISL.
