Celtic have suspended the Green Brigade supporters’ group from attending home and away matches following a violent confrontation involving police and stewards during last week’s game against Falkirk.
The club said the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 29, when a member of matchday staff was assaulted while carrying out a routine ticket check in the Rail Seating Section at Celtic Park. Police officers who intervened were also attacked after attempting to arrest the individual responsible.

According to Celtic, around 100 members of the Green Brigade then took part in what the club described as a “coordinated and orchestrated action” to prevent the arrest, with many concealing their identities using hoods, scarves, and face coverings.
The club said the group “verbally abused and assaulted” both the steward and two police officers — one male and one female — in a confined area, adding that one officer was at risk of being pulled to the ground and trampled by the crowd.
Celtic described the behaviour as “violent and threatening” and said it was “completely unacceptable.”

In July, the club had issued the Green Brigade with a suspended sanction following what it called “repeated serious safety and security-related breaches.” The warning stated that any further incident would result in members being banned from three home matches and from attending away fixtures during the same period.
Following last week’s events, Celtic confirmed the suspension will now take effect from this weekend. The club has written to the Green Brigade and to season ticket holders about the decision.

“For our staff and police to be assaulted in this way is simply unacceptable,” Celtic said in a statement. “This was a serious and violent incident which cannot be accepted and the club has no choice but to address this behaviour in the strongest terms.”
“Celtic Park cannot be a place for this kind of behaviour,” the club added, “and we must act in the wider interests and safety of everyone who attends our matches.”
