The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has strongly condemned incidents of crowd trouble that marred Sunday’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League clash between Al Ahly and ASFAR in Cairo.
In a statement released following the fixture on 15 February 2026, CAF confirmed that the matter has been referred to its Disciplinary Board for investigation, with appropriate sanctions to be imposed on those found responsible.
Reports claim sections of Al Ahly supporters threw bottles and other projectiles at ASFAR players and staff during the match. The situation escalated as the Moroccan side made their way toward the dressing rooms at half-time, prompting security personnel to intervene to restore order and ensure the safety of those involved.

ASFAR later issued its own statement condemning the behaviour, describing it as a direct threat to player safety. The Rabat-based club urged CAF to apply its regulations firmly and consistently in order to protect the integrity of the competition.
The controversy comes amid heightened sensitivity following previous disciplinary action involving ASFAR. After crowd disturbances during the first-leg meeting between the two sides, CAF’s Disciplinary Committee ordered the Moroccan club to play two matches behind closed doors.
That earlier sanction has intensified debate over how CAF will respond to the incidents in Cairo. Observers across African football have called for equal treatment under the governing body’s rules, stressing that consistent enforcement is essential to maintaining credibility in the continent’s premier club competition.
CAF has not yet announced a timeline for the Disciplinary Board’s findings, but further updates are expected in the coming days.
