FC Barcelona has moved to distance itself from a newly launched token associated with Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP), the blockchain technology company that recently became the club’s Official Cryptographic Protocol Partner.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the club addressed “information published regarding the launch” of a token by ZKP, stressing that Barça has no involvement whatsoever with the digital asset.
“FC Barcelona has no connection with the company’s token,” the statement said. “The club has no responsibility for, or involvement in, the issuance or management of this token, nor does it use the associated technology. Neither the existence nor the issuance of this token formed part of the sponsorship agreement previously signed with the club.”
The clarification follows the announcement earlier this month of a three-year global partnership running through 2028, in which ZKP became Barcelona’s Official Cryptographic Protocol Partner. The company specialises in privacy-first blockchain systems that use decentralised artificial intelligence to verify data securely without exposing sensitive information.

As part of the agreement, ZKP will utilise the club’s digital advertising assets and create Barça-themed digital experiences, with a focus on data protection and cryptographic trust. According to ZKP, its technology aims to set a new standard for AI and data use in sport—allowing personalised fan engagement and secure analysis of athlete data while maintaining transparency and accountability.
Barcelona emphasised its ongoing commitment to transparency, adding that it will provide further updates “as soon as conclusive information is available.”
The partnership with ZKP is the club’s latest move in expanding its commercial footprint into emerging technologies, reinforcing Barcelona’s status as one of the most in-demand global sports brands among innovative companies.
