Real Zaragoza and SD Huesca have both issued strong condemnations following chaotic scenes at the end of Sunday’s heated clash at El Alcoraz, as tensions surrounding refereeing decisions and player conduct continue to escalate.
In statements released after the match, Zaragoza expressed regret over what they described as “scenes unworthy of this sport,” acknowledging that the incidents in the closing moments did not reflect the club’s values or those of its supporters. Emphasising their responsibility as role models, particularly to younger fans, the club admitted the events should never have occurred and confirmed an internal review into the actions of goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, with disciplinary measures expected.
Huesca echoed similar sentiments, condemning the disorder that marred a fixture of significant regional importance. The club described the incidents as unacceptable and damaging to the image of the game, stressing that such behaviour has no place in football.
However, Zaragoza’s follow-up statement added another layer to the controversy, sharply criticising the refereeing performance.
