The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has issued sanctions against FC Shakhtar Donetsk following incidents during their UEFA club competition match against Crystal Palace F.C. on April 30, 2026, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the English side.
Shakhtar’s supporters were found guilty of engaging in racist and/or discriminatory behaviour, including illicit chants and displaying an illicit flag or banner, in violation of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations. In addition, the club was cited for lighting fireworks inside the stadium.
As a result, the CEDB has imposed a €30,000 fine on Shakhtar Donetsk and ordered the partial closure of the club’s stadium, covering at least 10% of seating capacity, for their next home UEFA club competition match. However, this stadium closure has been suspended during a probationary period of two years, meaning it will only take effect if similar misconduct occurs during that time.
Shakhtar also received a €4,000 fine for the fireworks incident.
UEFA’s decision underscores the organization’s ongoing commitment to combat discrimination in football and ensure the safety and respect of all participants and supporters.
