Major League Soccer has confirmed a series of suspensions and injury updates ahead of Matchday 4, with several high-profile absences set to impact fixtures across the league this weekend.
Three players will serve one-match bans following red cards issued for serious offences. Gerardo Valenzuela will miss FC Cincinnati’s clash against CF Montréal on March 22 after being dismissed for serious foul play. Nicholas Markanich is also sidelined for Houston Dynamo FC’s trip to FC Dallas on March 21 for a similar offence. Meanwhile, Javier Mascherano has been suspended for Inter Miami CF’s encounter with New York City FC after leaving the technical area to dissent.
In addition, Wilfried Zaha faces the prospect of suspension, with the Charlotte FC forward one caution away from a ban due to yellow card accumulation.

Beyond disciplinary matters, clubs are grappling with an extensive list of injuries that could significantly shape team selections. Los Angeles Football Club appears among the hardest hit, with multiple first-team players—including defenders and key attacking options—ruled out. Seattle Sounders FC also faces a major selection headache, missing several regular starters through a mix of knee, hamstring, and quad injuries.
Austin FC will be without a number of key contributors, including attacking options sidelined by knee injuries, while Toronto FC continues to deal with a lengthy absence list spanning multiple positions.

Elsewhere, Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps FC are similarly affected, each reporting a cluster of long-term injuries that will test squad depth early in the season.
Some teams, however, have fewer concerns. San Jose Earthquakes reported no injuries, offering a rare boost in an otherwise physically demanding start to the campaign.
With suspensions taking effect immediately and injury lists continuing to grow, clubs across MLS face mounting challenges as they navigate a congested early-season schedule. Managers will be forced to rely on squad rotation and emerging talent as they look to maintain momentum in the weeks ahead.
