Liverpool have announced the departure of head coach Arne Slot with immediate effect, bringing an end to a two-year spell that included a Premier League title and consecutive Champions League qualifications.
The club confirmed on Saturday that the process of appointing a successor is already under way.
Slot arrived at Anfield in June 2024 and enjoyed immediate success, guiding Liverpool to their 20th English league title in his debut campaign. His achievements during the 2024-25 season also earned him the League Managers Association (LMA) Manager of the Year award, while Liverpool reached the Carabao Cup final and the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
The Dutchman followed up that success by securing Champions League qualification once again in the 2025-26 season, with Liverpool advancing to the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition.
In a joint statement, Liverpool's ownership paid tribute to Slot's accomplishments while explaining the rationale behind the decision to make a managerial change.

“That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful.
The ownership group highlighted Slot's lasting place in Liverpool history, particularly for delivering the club's landmark 20th league championship.
“We would like to take this opportunity to place on record our appreciation for Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this football club as the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title.
The statement also acknowledged Slot's leadership during a difficult period for the club following the death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.
“He also helped guide the club through one of the most difficult periods imaginable following the loss of Diogo. The compassion and humanity he showed throughout that time said a great deal about him as a person.
Slot departs Liverpool having overseen 20th league-title success, two consecutive Champions League qualifications and deep runs in domestic and European competitions. Attention will now turn to the club's search for a new head coach as Liverpool prepare for the 2026-27 season.
