Feyenoord have confirmed that Robin van Persie will not continue as the club’s head coach, with the Rotterdam side opting for a managerial change ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
The club announced that Van Persie was informed of the decision during a meeting with senior management on Monday, bringing an end to his 18-month spell in charge of the first team.
Technical Director Dévy Rigaux acknowledged the significance of the decision and praised the former Netherlands international for his efforts during a demanding period for the club.
“Robin van Persie has given everything for the club over the past 18 months. He deserves credit for guiding the team through a challenging season and ultimately securing second place. That ensured qualification for the UEFA Champions League, which is of great importance to the club,” Rigaux said.
Despite securing a second-place finish in the Eredivisie and a return to the UEFA Champions League, Feyenoord's leadership concluded that a change was necessary following an extensive review of the team's progress and results.

“We conducted a thorough internal evaluation in which we looked at several factors, including the development of the team’s performances and the downward trend in points collected, both in Europe and in the Eredivisie. The conclusion was that it would be better to start the new season with a new head coach,” Rigaux added.
Van Persie leaves the club having overseen 58 matches across all competitions. During his tenure, Feyenoord recorded 30 victories, nine draws and 19 defeats, giving him a win percentage of approximately 51.7%.
While the club achieved its primary objective of securing Champions League qualification through a second-place league finish, Van Persie was unable to add any major silverware to Feyenoord’s trophy cabinet during his time in charge.
The former striker, who enjoyed a celebrated playing career with Feyenoord, Arsenal, Manchester United and the Netherlands national team, had been viewed as one of Dutch football’s most promising young coaches. However, concerns over declining performances and results ultimately led the club to pursue a different direction.
Feyenoord stated that they expect to appoint Van Persie’s successor within the coming weeks as preparations continue for the new season and the club’s return to Europe’s premier club competition.
