Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a significant step into football ownership after acquiring a 25 per cent stake in Spanish club UD Almería through his company CR7 Sports Investments.
The investment, made via a subsidiary of CR7 S.A., marks a major development in both the club’s international expansion strategy and the Portuguese superstar’s growing business portfolio beyond his playing career.
UD Almería is a professional football club based in Almería, Andalusia, Spain. Founded in 1989, the club has competed in both La Liga and Spain’s Segunda División, establishing itself as a competitive side known for developing young talent.
The deal forms part of a broader global vision led by club president Mohamed Al Khereiji through SMC Group, aimed at strengthening Almería’s international profile and long-term growth.

“We’re very pleased that Cristiano has chosen our Club to invest in,” Al Khereiji said. “He is considered the greatest player in history, knows Spanish football extremely well and understands the potential we are building both in the first team and at Academy level.”
Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of football’s all-time greats, highlighted his ambition to remain closely connected to the game off the pitch.
“For a long time, my ambition has been to contribute to football beyond the pitch,” he said. “UD Almería have strong foundations and clear growth potential. I look forward to working with the leadership team to support the Club’s next phase.”
The move signals Ronaldo’s increasing involvement in football ownership and strategic investment, while offering Almería the global reach and commercial influence associated with one of the sport’s most recognisable figures.
