Celtic’s appeal against the red card shown to defender Auston Trusty during Sunday’s 1–1 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle has been dismissed following a Scottish FA hearing on Tuesday.
Trusty was sent off after his original yellow card was upgraded to a red following a VAR review, a decision that proved pivotal in the Edinburgh encounter.
In a statement released after the hearing, Celtic expressed their disappointment with the outcome and raised concerns over the application of VAR protocols during the incident.

“The VAR Protocol requires that VAR only intervenes when there is a ‘clear and obvious error’,” the club said. “It is difficult to see how the original yellow card decision is a clear and obvious error and accordingly, VAR’s intervention by the refereeing team was not consistent with the rules.”
Celtic confirmed they are awaiting the written judgment from the Scottish FA but indicated the matter will not end there, with further discussions planned with the governing body.

“We will be ensuring further discussions with the SFA on the matter as we seek to understand the rationale for this and other decisions,” the statement added.
The dismissal of the appeal means Trusty will serve the suspension imposed following the red card, ruling him out of Celtic’s next domestic fixture.
